Good morning everyone!! Are you ready to see another area of our home?? This space is one that many of you have already seen via my Insta stories and in previous blog posts but it’s going to be fun to chat details with you today about our LAUNDRY ROOM!!

The original laundry room in this house was REALLY tiny! In fact, in one little area, they had the laundry room, entryway, pantry, AND bathroom!! It was pretty tight so we decided to push out the left and right sides of our house about 8 feet to give ourselves some extra room to play with which is why our laundry room is so big … it’s probably bigger than what I would normally go for but I have no regrets making it this size, I absolutely love it and it’s seriously the laundry room of my dreams!! Every time I look at this space I can’t help but feel so proud of how beautifully it came together!

I honestly had no idea how it was going to turn out in the end, I had a vision for this space but I didn’t have an actual mood board or design board to go off of and I was making lots of the decisions on the fly all while filming Love It Or List It Vancouver and Jillian and Justin, managing my business and being a new mama to Leo! To say the least, I was pretty overwhelmed by everything and looking back I feel as though the whole house wasn’t really thought out as well as it could have been and I sent so much of my time agonizing over every little detail! Especially when it came to the laundry room! When I think back to designing the laundry room, Justin probably thought I was officially losing my mind … he knows JUST how much I love my white so I think it REALLY shocked him when I dropped the bomb that I was debating over a black or baby blue laundry room! You can see our laundry room from most areas of our home so Justin thought I was crazy and if I didn’t stick with white that I would be so unhappy with it! Welp. I KNEW people were expecting my entire house to be white so I REALLY wanted to do something unique and different but at the same time I didn’t want to disappoint anyone! I wanted this space to have a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel to it … I pictured a retro pattern, a farmhouse sink, marble, and COLOUR, so I knew I had to trust my gut on this … but it wasn’t easy!

I was going back and forth on the tile for so long, I loved the tile that I had picked out (which is the one we went for in the end, Atlas 1 from the Cement Tile Shop!) I remember showing this to everyone and NOBODY liked it but I loved it because it gave that retro feel I was aiming for and even though it’s patterned it’s still timeless, (it was a bold move going for this but I think it actually helps tie the whole space together!). I ordered the hardware online without even seeing a sample, I knew I wanted large knobs but I didn’t bother to bust out a measuring tape to see what size of knob would be best for the cabinets, I just ordered blindly and I remember getting them in the mail and freaking out because they were massive!

THEN when it came to the actual colour of the space, I was so torn that it came down to me going “eenie meenie miney mo” between the black and baby blue (I felt like I was back on The Bachelorette ? )… and I landed on BLUE and I just went for it and had the cabinets pained in “Smoke” by Benjamin Moore and I crossed my fingers that I would love it all while everyone was telling me it was a bad decision … in fact, I made some pretty massive decisions in this space that nobody agreed with so it left me feeling a little nervous especially when I saw the cabinets being installed and I had a slight heart attack and PANICKED when I saw the colour and instantly thought I made the BIGGEST mistake!

This space was a serious roller coaster of emotions, I went from thinking “This is stupid and ugly … to HOLY SHIT I’M A GENIUS” LOL!! I beat myself up so much over this, I remember staring at the hardware and thinking to myself “Why wouldn’t you measure these and get a sample ordered to see if you actually like it?!” but thankfully, in the end, I STILL love everything about this space and the knobs worked perfectly, the round knobs are the Newport Knobs and the Alexander Pulls are both from Emtek! I think they make the space look unique and whimsical!

It wasn’t until the marble countertops from Caesarstone and the marble tile (in Oriental White 3×12) from Olympia Tile + Stone were installed that I really saw the space coming together and at that moment I KNEW my decisions were all true to my vision and I fell in LOVE with it!! Phewwww!!! Actually a little tip for you … if you’re planning on doing a bold colour for your cabinets, go with a marble tile to tie everything together, it’s so classy and timeless!

Also, because this space is U shaped, I was able to dedicate the right-hand side of the laundry room to Nacho! We like to keep Nacho’s food, treats, leashes, and collars in the first top and bottom cupboards and right next to that we created a wrapping station! I keep all of my wrapping paper, tags, art supplies, ribbons, etc in these drawers and cupboards and this little area is where I do ALL of my wrapping for Christmas!! All of the cabinets in our laundry room were done by Kelowna Innovative Cabinets and designed by Home Image Interiors!

My washer and dryer are LG and they’re from Best Buy Canada, I LOVE this set because our LG Steam Washer also has a mini washer (aka sidekick washer!) on the bottom so I can use this to wash delicates or Leo’s clothes which also helps to reduce the amount of water used if you only have a small wash to do!! Ps. Did you notice the hanging area for delicates right beside our dryer?? This is a game changer!! Every laundry room needs this! LOL!

The farmhouse sink and faucets are from Kohler, I’m seriously a sucker for farmhouse sinks and I love the size of this one! The window is from Plygem and the window coverings were made by Q Design Centre! The fun antique looking light is from Barn Light Electric Company and the pot lights were installed by Bridge Energy along with lighting from Sylvania! Oh, and that adorable laundry bin is from World Market … everyone ALWAYS asks about this laundry bin and I LOVE it because it’s easy to move around considering it has wheels on the bottom and even though it’s always stuffed with laundry, it doesn’t matter because it’s so damn cute! LOL!!

There are also two cabinets to the left of our washing machine, one is for Justin and the other is for me, we hang all of our coats here and I have no idea what I’m going to do with Leo’s just yet or any future kids jackets … I’m going to have to do some rearranging at some point! LOL! I also really love the fact that there is so much storage in this laundry room, the cupboards are stocked with all of my gift wrapping supplies and cleaning supplies so I think I need to do some organizing here too but it’s amazing to have all of this extra room for things plus, I also enjoy having the open shelves for towels and little pieces of decor!
